What a balcony garden costs in Gurugram: ₹10,000, ₹25,000 and ₹50,000, itemised
Three budgets, itemised, from the people who install them. Plus the four things that move the price more than the plants do.

Key takeaways
- ₹10,000–15,000 buys a planted wall: 8–12 plants, matching planters, trays, soil and installation.
- ₹20,000–30,000 adds deck tiles, a seat and railing planters; this is where a balcony becomes a room.
- ₹40,000–60,000 buys zones, drip irrigation on a timer and lighting, for big or wrap-around balconies.
- Plants are rarely the expensive part; flooring, seating and irrigation move the price.
- At Good Theory the visit, the preview and the itemised quote are free.
Search for the cost of a balcony garden and you get two useless answers: a nursery telling you a pot is ₹500, and a landscaping firm that will not say a number until a sales call. Neither helps you decide whether to do it. We quote balconies in Gurugram every week, so here is what the money actually goes on, at three budgets, with nothing hidden.
The short answer
| Budget | What you get | Typical balcony |
|---|---|---|
| ₹10,000–15,000 | Design visit, 8–12 plants in matching planters with trays, the right soil mix, installed in a morning | 4×6 to 5×8 ft, one wall planted |
| ₹20,000–30,000 | All of the above plus teak deck tiles or an outdoor rug, a two-seater or bench, a planter run along the railing, warm lighting | 5×8 to 6×12 ft |
| ₹40,000–60,000 | Zones: a lounge, a kitchen trough, a green screen; drip irrigation on a timer; lighting; a storage bench; two or three tall anchor plants | 8×12 ft and up, or a wrap-around |
Every number includes the design, the plants, the planters and the installation. At Good Theory the site visit, the visual preview and the itemised quote are free, so the first rupee you spend is on the balcony itself. What ₹10,000 buys
A real garden on one wall, not a few pots. The money goes on eight to twelve plants chosen for the way your balcony faces, planters that match each other and sit on trays so nothing drips on the neighbour, a potting mix that drains in the monsoon and holds water in May, and a crew that installs it in a morning. It does not include flooring or furniture. This is the right budget for a 4×6 or 5×8 ft balcony, for a rented flat, or for finding out whether you will actually use the space before spending more.
What ₹25,000 buys
This is where a balcony turns into a room. The extra fifteen thousand usually goes three ways: teak deck tiles over the builder's floor (about a third of the budget on a 6×10 ft balcony), somewhere to sit (a two-seater, a bench with storage, or two folding chairs and a low table), and a run of planters along the railing so the greenery is at eye level when you sit. A string of warm lights on a timer is the cheapest thing on the list and the one people notice most. Plants: twelve to twenty.
What ₹50,000 buys
A balcony with zones. A corner to lounge in, a trough of herbs and chillies by the kitchen door, and a green screen of tall planters where the next tower looks in. Drip irrigation on a battery timer so the garden survives your travel. Proper lighting, a bench that stores the cushions, and two or three tall plants in heavy planters that anchor the whole thing against the wind. This is the budget for wrap-around balconies on Golf Course Road, the big decks at M3M Golf Estate or the 300 sq ft balconies in newer Ghaziabad towers.
The four things that move the price
- Size and shape. A long, narrow balcony costs more per square foot than a square one because everything runs along a wall. Wrap-arounds need two of everything.
- Flooring. Deck tiles are the single biggest line after ₹20,000. They are also what makes a balcony feel finished, so we rarely suggest skipping them once the budget allows.
- Seating. A bench with storage costs more than two chairs but ends the cushion-in-the-living-room problem.
- Irrigation and lighting. Drip on a timer and warm lights add ₹4,000–8,000 and are the difference between a garden that lasts and one that dies in the first heatwave.
Notice what is not on the list. Plants are rarely the expensive part. A good balcony plant costs ₹150–600; it is the planter, the floor and the furniture that add up.
Where people overspend
- Big ceramic pots. They crack in the first summer, weigh forty kilos wet, and cost more than the plant inside them. Fibre and polymer planters look the same from a metre away and last.
- A lawn on a balcony. Grass in a tray dies by June in Gurugram. A deck tile floor with planted edges looks better and costs less to keep.
- Too many plants in year one. A balcony filled on day one has nowhere to grow. Twelve plants with room beats thirty that fight.
- Cheap lights. The ₹300 string from the market dies in the first monsoon. Outdoor-rated lights on a timer cost three times as much and last three years.
What is not in these numbers
Civil work (we do not drill, so there usually is none), waterproofing (a terrace question, not a balcony one), pergolas (terraces again), and large trees. If your balcony needs any of these, the quote says so as a separate line. What we never charge for: the site visit, the preview and the quote.
Want the exact number for your balcony? A designer visits free and you get one itemised quote. That quote is the price you pay.
The cost after the cost
Most balcony gardens in NCR die in month two, not month twelve: the first heatwave, the first trip, the first pigeon. A monthly Care plan from ₹999 covers scheduled visits, pruning, feeding, pest checks and free replacements, and it is cheaper than replanting once a year. If you would rather do it yourself, the NCR balcony calendar is the routine our crew follows.
Questions people ask
Yes, for a one-wall garden on a 4×6 to 5×8 ft balcony: eight to twelve plants in matching planters with trays, the right soil, and installation. It does not stretch to flooring or furniture. Most people start here and add the deck and a seat later.
